Background & Evaluation

a RIGHT Blether was the national consultation undertaken by Scotland's Commissioner for Children and Young People in 2010. It provided an opportunity for children and young people across Scotland to say what was important in their lives and to take part in a national vote. 

Although the national vote is now finished, collated below are some of the resources connected to a RIGHT Blether to provide you with a sense of how the national consultation progressed during 2010 culminating in the announcement of the voting results in March 2011. 

Evaluation of a Right Blether

This report presents the final findings from the evaluation of the national consultation 'a RIGHT blether' undertaken by York Consulting on behalf of Scotland's Commissioner for Children and Young People. The overall aim of the evaluation was to report on the processes and outcome of 'a RIGHT blether' for its participants and to assess its impact across Scotland.

A Right Blether Website

This website was used throughout 2010 to promote a RIGHT Blether to children and young people, professionals who work with them and parents. It was also used to make available all the resources and guidance connected to a RIGHT Blether. Although this website is no longer current, we have chosen to archive it as we believe it provides a sense of how the project progressed during 2010. 

YouTube channel

You can watch seven films connected to A Right Blether on our YouTube channel 'RightsSCCYP'. Three of these films were produced by young people as a means of independently monitoring and assessing the process of the national consultation.

A Right Big Blether

This was the final event of the national consultation. It took place at the MacRobert Arts Centre, Stirling in March 2011 and brought together children, young people and adults who work with and for them to ensure their voices inform and influence the work of the Commissioner from 2011-2015.

Right Brilliant Things

This report present the key findings from 'Your Right Brilliant Thing'. It looks at the main themes to emerge broken down by younger and older age groups. 'Your Right Brilliant Thing' was part of the Commissioner's national consultation 'a RIGHT blether'. Its purpoes was to encourage children and young people to tell the Commissioner all about the right brilliant things going on in their lives.
