Meeting with Hugh Munro, Chief Inspector of Prisons – Nico Juetten present. This was the first opportunity for Hugh and I to meet and we exchanged information on our respective remits and responsibilities. There was common ground on concerns around the issue of young people in penal establishments – particularly the link between young people in YOI and those who had a care background. I informed Hugh that I was considering ways to engage with Polmont YOI and Cornton Vale to highlight the issue, through the views and experiences of young people themselves. There was a common concern around young women and this may be a useful starting point for this exercise.
