  • A Consultation on the Common Core of Skills, Knowledge & Understanding and Values for the Children's Workforce in Scotland
    June 2011. The Commissioner comments on the Scottish Government's consultation on the common core areas of skill, knowledge & understanding that the children's workforce in Scotland should have. Whilst the Commissioner agrees with the idea of having a set of core skills he believes that the document would be strengthened by a clear reference to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
  • Forced Marriage Statutory Guidance
    June 2011. The Commissioner comments on the Scottish Government's draft statutory guidance on forced marriage. Overall the Commissioner welcomes the content of the guidance and thinks it is an important step that, combined with other necessary steps, will enable Scotland to start protecting victims and potential victims of forced marriage.
  • Equality Act 2010: Ending Age Discrimination in Services, Public Functions and Associations - a consultation
    May 2011. In this response the Commissioner reiterates his concern that the Equality Act 2010 excludes children and young people from legal protection from unfair discrimination on the grounds of age in services and public functions. He urges the UK Government to bring its law, policy and practice on age discrimination in line with the UNCRC and ensure that the committment made at ratification is duly respected.
  • Tackling Child Poverty in Scotland: a discussion paper
    January 2011. The Commissioner comments on the Scottish Government's discussion paper to inform its first Scottish Child Poverty Strategy under the Child Poverty Act 2010.
