Child Trafficking

In 2010 a study was undertaken by the Centre for Rural Childhood, Perth College UHI to provide the Commissioner with an understanding of the nature and extent of child trafficking in Scotland which would allow his office to make recommendations for policy, practice and legislative change, and to use the results to raise awareness, among relevant professionals and key stakeholders.

The study revealed that even in the few cases where children have been correctly identified as victims of trafficking, the poor response to their needs and the lack of succesful criminal prosecutions of the perpetrators, makes Scotland a welcome place for traffickers to operate.
