Parents Splitting Up

7: SCCYP will work to support children and young people to have a greater say on what happens when their parents split up, carried out in a sensitive way that they feel happy with.

This is different from the other issues as it is not something children and young people raised in our discussion groups. However, as a very private matter, it might not have been a good place to raise it, which is why we are giving you this chance to say whether you think this should be the main thing we work on. These are some of the things we could do:
  • Find out more about children and young people?s experience of parents splitting up
  • Find out how many were asked for their views ? by parents or courts
  • Find out how children and young people felt about the way this was done
  • Find out how many children and young people were not asked for their views ? and what they felt about that
  • Work out what children and young people would like to happen
  • Try to change the system to make it more responsive to children and young people?s needs and wishes
